In 2020 Iceland will hold the chair of the Arctic Council. The president of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, will speak about Iceland in the geopolitics of the North Atlantic region as well as Iceland’s main agenda items while chairing the Arctic Council. The President is a historian by profession and was a professor of contemporary history at the University of Iceland when he was elected President of Iceland in the summer of 2016.
